How many gifts should you bring to an international convention?

There is no set answer to this question, of course. How many gifts you choose to bring to an international convention is going to vary based on many factors including space in your luggage, your budget for gifts, and so on. But here are some details that hopefully can help you decide!

Who do I give gifts to?

My first thought is that the gifts are for the brothers and sisters in the convention location and that is where the vast majority of our gifts have always gone. But you will also meet and make friends with many delegates along the way who you will want to potentially keep in touch with and/or give a gift to as well! At times you may even feel compelled to gift someone you meet - a super helpful hotel staff member or, as we saw at one convention, the incredibly kind and friendly police officers on duty at the convention!

When Will I Have Opportunity To Give Gifts?

Of course you will give gifts on the 3 days of the convention! You already knew that ;)

Here are some other opportunities that will present themselves:

1. On travel days as you will all be wearing your convention name tags, you will run into other delegates on their way to the convention as well!
2. Welcoming committee at the airport
3. Friends you meet at the hotel, both locals and delegates
4. Those you are on the bus with every day to the convention - local bus captains and delegates
5. You have activities during the convention week and you'll meet local brothers and sisters there too!
6. At your evening gathering event!
7. As you tour on your own before or after the convention you will spot friends with their name tags on or you may be spotted by a local brother or sister!
   
   
   These are just some scenarios! Of course, you don't need to give a gift to every person you see or interact with. No one would expect that! But if you keep a few handy at all times you'll be glad - I promise!

What If I Run Out Of Gifts?!

Don't worry! Everyone does eventually :p 

I recommend having extra contact cards, though. Even if you run out of gifts, you can still exchange contact information with a new friend you meet and really get on well with. Have some contact cards handy with you on your travel days etc. Too many times all my gifts and contact cards were buried in my luggage. *eyeroll*

”At least 300. In 2014 we went to South Korea and I ran out before the convention was over. I gave gifts to the greeters, tour guides, Bethelites and then to so many at the convention. Small gifts are best.”
