How To Do Laundry On The Road So You Can Pack Lighter | International Convention Packing Tips

If you're packing lighter for the convention and pre-convention/post-convention travel that probably means you are bringing less clothing. Bringing less clothing means you're going to need to wash your clothes somewhere along the way. You have a few options. 

1. Use Your Hotel's Laundry Service

Most hotels offer a laundry service. The upside of this - it's convenient. The downside - it's usually quite expensive. 

2. Find A Laundromat 

Ask a local (or the internet) where there is a local laundromat. The upside of this - it's cheaper than using the hotel laundry service. The downside - it can be time consuming and you need to plan strategically the best times to wash clothes before you run out together with when you can spare time sitting at the laundromat. 

3. Wash Clothes In The Sink or Bathtub

For simple hand washing, you can easily make use of the sink or bathtub. If you travel with a small bar of clothing soap like the Laundress Wash & Stain Bar or travel size eco friendly soak wash you can just use a bit of that on the clothes and hand wash them and hang or lay them to dry.

4. Wash Clothes In A Scrubba Wash Bag

If you plan to do a lot of traveling where you may need to launder on the go, you may like the Scrubba Wash Bag. The bag operates like a dry bag to create a water tight seal. You  simply add your clothes, soap, and water and the "nobules" inside the bag agitate the dirt out of your clothing.

Tips For Doing Laundry On The Go

• Consider the fabric of your clothing and how long it may take to dry. Some fabrics dry in just a couple of hours and others can take multiple days if they are drying inside.
• Consider the climate you are going to and if you have access to hang your clothes outside or not. This can impact dry time. 
• Consider bringing a portable travel clothes line because not all hotels and accommodations will have a good place for you to hang dry your clothes, unfortunately. 
• Don't wait too long. The last thing you want is to run out of underwear. Seriously. 
• If your travels have you moving from accommodation every day or two, again you will need to think carefully about when a good time to wash clothes will be. If you have a stay that is 2 or 3 nights instead of 1, you can scrub up first thing upon arrival to ensure everything will be dry in time for departure. 
• If things aren't quite dry... Most accommodation will have a hair dryer. It's not ideal, but in a pinch it can help dry things up for you. 
• To help things dry quicker: Lay a bath towel out on the bed. Lay wet clothing flat on it (already hand wrung) Place another towel on top. Roll it up from one end to the other and press down on it. The towel will absorb a lot of moisture and speed up the drying process.
