Why You Should Bring An International Travel Power Adapter | International Convention Packing Tips1/8/2019 Your trip to a special or international convention may be taking you to a country and culture quite different from your own and possibly for the first time. When you leave your home country or even continent for travel there are some things you may not initially think of when you’re packing. One of those we will discuss today. Electrical Outlets Vary
Electrical outlets can vary from country to country and this includes the shape of the prongs as well as the voltage.
Some hotels have built in universal electrical outlets or have adapters available. Still, I recommend purchasing a travel power adapter and bringing it with you just in case. You can plug your US based (or whichever country you’re from) electronic device into the adapter and it can be converted and subsequently plugged into the outlet of your travel destination. Please note that most travel adapters only adapt the prong shape/size/angle so you can plug into the wall outlet. Most travel adapters are not converters to convert the voltage of your electronics to the maximum voltage at your destination. USA is typically 110 Volt whereas Europe is typically 220 volt. The good news is, if you bring the power adapter (the brick attached to your charging cable) for your major devices, at least for Apple products like iPhone, iPad etc, those are made for 110-240 Volts. In other words, as long as you have atravel adapter along with the plug from your iPhone (etc) you don’t have to worry about the voltage. Hooray! A cool thing about a lot ofinternational travel power adapters today is that they also come with USB ports built into them. This way you only need one adapter to be able to charge multiple devices at the same time. This is incredibly convenient since we all use so many devices on a trip like this - iPhone, iPad, camera, etc. If you're more of a domestic traveler..
If you don't really travel internationally, but do travel domestically I recommend getting aUSB Hub. I leave one in my luggage all the time with some extra usb charging cables so I don't have to unplug everything the morning of travel. These are really useful because, again, you can charge many items using just 1 outlet. You never know how many outlets an accommodation will have whether it's a hotel, airbnb, best places ever, etc. so being able to charge all your devices from one hub is awesome.
