This week's Spoonflower design challenge was to create non-directional wallpaper - a wallpaper design without a clear up or down. In other words one that can be installed in any direction and still make sense - vertical, horizontal, diagonal, ceiling wallpaper... you get the idea!

I started with a color palette my husband described as "Caribbean Blues". After creating a painting on my iPad, I began to adapt it into a multi-directional design. I'm always amazed at how different the final surface pattern design looks compared to the original motif. In this case I find it marries quite a few elements and styles - It's a tiled pattern, featuring an abstract sun on the horizon and mountain landscape in a painted style which would not be complete with out a few paint splatters of a golden essence. This tiled surface pattern design would look great on pillows, don't you think?
Sized down it would make a very cool necktie or headband.
